Kyo-yaki '京焼' is the general term for pottery produced in Kyoto, which spread around the Higashiyama foothills from around the early Edo period, against the backdrop of the tea ceremony craze.

In contrast, Kiyomizu-yaki 清水焼 was made on Gojozaka 五条坂, the approach to Kiyomizu Temple.

Today, all pottery made in Kyoto is referred to as Kyoto-yaki '京焼' and Kiyomizu-yaki '清水焼'.
