Care Instructions

  • This vessel has been pre-treated to help prevent staining; however, this treatment is not highly durable.

  • Before first use, please rinse lightly with water.

  • Using a microwave or dishwasher may cause damage to the vessel. Please avoid use in ovens or over direct flame.

Staining can add character and depth to the piece, and as it is used over time, the colour and appearance will naturally change. We hope you enjoy this evolving patina as part of its charm.

Artisan

Sunao Koizumi 小泉 すなお

Sunao Koizumi creates ceramics for everyday life, objects shaped by use, touch, and time. Her work celebrates the natural texture of clay and the quiet depth of layered colour, achieved through glazes she carefully formulates by hand. Firing temperatures are precisely adjusted, allowing each piece to emerge with hues of lasting beauty, colours you can return to again and again without tiring of them.

Her relationship with clay began in Okinawa, where she first fell in love with ceramics and the expressive potential of earth and fire. Today, she works from her studio in Urayasu, just outside Tokyo, balancing her practice with family life as a mother of three. Cooking, caring, and making are deeply intertwined in her daily rhythm, and that sense of lived experience is present in her vessels.

We were introduced to Sunao through our Kyoto member, Chiyumi, while searching for a large, beautifully crafted mug. From the moment we met, we were drawn not only to her work, but to her warm, genuine character, an honesty that quietly carries through everything she makes.

Her ceramics are not made to impress at a distance, but to be held, used, and lived with pieces that gently become part of your day.
