Sawara is a soft, natural wood traditionally used in Japanese bathware and food preparation, including sushi buckets. It is typically left largely uncoated to preserve its natural qualities and has very little to no scent, offering a clean, understated presence in daily use. Its organic character also means it remains inherently delicate.
We take care to wrap each bowl carefully before shipping; however, we cannot accept liability for any marks or damage that may occur during transit.
Additionally, as each piece of wood features its own natural grain and tone, the bowl you receive may differ slightly in appearance from the photos.
The Sawara wood bath washbowl plays an essential role in Japanese bathing rituals.
Lightweight yet durable, Sawara is valued for its water resistance and subtle, refined character, making it ideal for both bathing and traditional culinary uses.
Traditionally used for pouring water over the body before entering the bath, it reflects a ritual of purification, mindfulness, and transition.
The natural qualities of Sawara help create a serene atmosphere, encouraging relaxation and a deeper connection to nature.
Rooted in long-standing traditions, the use of the Sawara washbowl reflects Japan’s emphasis on thoughtful craftsmanship, everyday ritual, and harmony between material and wellbeing.
