Plum blossoms have long been cherished in Kyoto, often appearing in waka poems of the Heian period (794–1185) as a beloved symbol of early spring. In the world of tea, they are seen as an expression of quiet beauty—frequently featured in tea rooms and gardens as seasonal scrolls or floral arrangements to evoke the shifting seasons.
This Kiyomizu-yaki matcha bowl is beautifully hand-painted with delicate white and red plum blossoms. The vivid contrast between the vibrant green of matcha and the blossoms’ graceful hues makes each tea moment feel like a celebration of spring!
