Simply Native × Paire x Nawa by Joanna
Chazome (茶染め) is the Japanese practice of dyeing cloth with tea. Join Simply Native and Paire for an afternoon exploring tea from leaf to cloth. You’ll steep, taste and dye, and leave with a one-of-a-kind T-shirt coloured by tea. Conversation prompts by Joanna from Nawa, a gentle way to connect with fellow guests over tea.

- Tasting of matcha, hojicha and indigo tea, loose leaf teas

About the colour
Your shirt is dyed using tea, with no synthetic dyes. Expect soft, natural tones ranging from warm beige to muted green. Every shirt turns out a little different, and that’s part of the charm.
Good to know
- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little stained.
- Your shirt will still be damp at the end of the session. Please bring a plastic bag to take it home.
- Suitable for ages [12+].
- To care for your shirt, wash it cold and separately, and dry it out of direct sunlight. Natural dyes soften gently over time.
- Tickets are non-refundable if you can’t attend, but you’re welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend. Just let us know their name.
About Nawa by Joanna
Joanna Ao (@matchajoanna) is a Sydney-based matcha lover and content creator who shares her favourite matcha spots and finds with her community on Instagram and TikTok. She brought Simply Native and Paire together for this workshop and will be co-hosting on the day.
About Paire
Paire is a Melbourne clothing brand founded in 2020 by best friends Nathan and Rex, set up to counter fast fashion. The ReBrew™ T-shirt you’ll be dyeing is made with spent coffee grounds collected from cafés. They’re blended into recycled polyester on the inside of the tee, with soft organic cotton on the outside.
Coffee in the fibre, tea in the colour.

ABOUT THE MAKER
Simply Native Original | Sourced Across Japan
Simply Native works directly with tea producers and artisans to create and curate pieces that sit outside mass production — from small-batch teas and matcha to ceramics developed exclusively for us.
Founder Yukino, trained in the Urasenke school of tea, spent over four years developing our first ceremonial blend. Grounded in the art of blending, it is designed for depth, balance, and clarity, equally suited to drinking straight or as a latte.
Each tea and object is shaped through collaboration with artisans in Japan. Our collection evolves through seasonal releases, with limited works produced in close partnership with makers. Nothing is incidental, each piece reflects material, timing, and long-term relationships.
