1.5 million years old
The clay used for Bizen-ware
Hand made in Okayama, Japan by our friend at Kozan-gama, this one-off flower vase is a perfect decorative piece as its “matches anything” colour and its simplicity.
With the clay of 1.5 million years old when the earliest humans walked on modern feet, a scientist’s experiment led to the discovery that Bizen-ware blocks 90% of far infrared rays, keeping water fresh.
They are placed in a climbed kiln and pine wood are used as fuel. Pine wood contains resin, which creates high temperature, resulting in various unique patterns.
It is remarkable to see the variety of results for each piece made from the same clays and same firing.
